# Mega Evolution

**Mega Evolution (Mega Pokémon)** is a **battle-only transformation** mechanic in the *Pokémon* series that temporarily enhances certain Pokémon during fights. First introduced in *Pokémon X and Pokémon Y* (Generation VI), Mega Evolution returns in later titles—as seen most recently in *Pokémon Legends: Z-A*—and remains one of the franchise’s most impactful strategic features.

#### **Activation Requirements**

To Mega Evolve a Pokémon in battle:

* The Pokémon must be capable of Mega Evolution and **hold its unique Mega Stone**.
* The Trainer must possess a **Key Stone** (often embedded in a Mega Ring) to trigger the evolution.
* Mega Evolution can only occur **during a battle** and only **once per battle per Trainer**.
* Mega Evolved Pokémon **revert to their base form** at the end of the battle or if knocked out.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://cobblemon-town.gitbook.io/cobblemon-town/server-features/battle-features/mega-evolution.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
